Disbursements

Disbursements are essentially fees that the funeral director pays out on behalf of the family, ie: doctor's fees where appropriate, crematorium, cemetry fees and parochial fees etc. A written estimate, provided by the funeral director, will detail the approximate cost of any disbursements. However you must appreciate that the funeral director has no direct control over these charges and they could therefore be subject to slight variations. Funeral directors may ask for payment of the estimated disbursements prior to the funeral.

Doctors and Cremation Fees

No one can be cremated until the cause of death is definitely known. There are two cremation certificates (Forms B & C). Each must be signed by a different doctor. The funeral director would under normal circumstances arrange for these to be prepared. These certificates must be paid for and will be listed under disbursements on the estimate. The cremation certificates are not normally required when the death is referred to the coroner.
